The Naga warrior would wear this small wood head on a necklace to show success in headhunting, an important part of their culture for fertility and success as a man. The well carved wood head has remnants of black tree pitch in the tattoo designs and details, and has a good patina from age and use. Mounted on a custom metal stand. 3 inches tall by 2.5 inches wide. Early 20th century, Assam, Nagaland and Northeast India. Sold
